To know India one needs to understand mindsets in its deep interiors. A visit to remote Burhanpur in Madhya Pradesh reinforced my faith in Middle India. For decades I have been enthralled by the sights and sounds of Middle India, journeying to towns and villages by roads less travelled, at least by the city-bred. This wanderlust began in real earnest after I joined The Statesman in Kolkata almost 28 years to the date.
