Ending Bengal's politics-violence marriage
Seven months ago, Bengal turned a historic corner. Mamata Banerjee ascended to power, defeating the over three-decade-old Marxist regime, reviving people's dormant aspirations and hopes. But the state was in terrible shape. Financially in the red, politically stagnant and ridden by violence, Bengal first had to be repaired. To most political pundits, economic revival was the key to bringing Bengal back on the rails.
