Lok Pal Bill may come in Rajya Sabha in this session -
New Delhi, May 14 - Government is planning to bring the Lok Pal Bill in the Rajya Sabha in the current session of Parliament concluding on May 22 but there is little likelihood of the crucial Pension, Banking and Insurance bills coming up for discussion in the two Houses. Talks are on with various parties to thrash out differences on the Lok Pal Bill amid indications that the government was open to the idea of removing the provisions regarding setting up Lokayuktyas in the states.

New Delhi, May 10 - In a bid to evolve consensus on the Lokpal Bill before it is brought to Rajya Sabha, government today reached out to the Opposition and other parties to thrash out differences and ensure smooth passage of the proposed legislation. Union Ministers Kapil Sibal, Salman Kurshid, Pawan Kumar Bansal and V Narayansamy met Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley in Parliament House to discuss the Lokpal Bill.

Chidambaram under attack in LS; dismisses charge as wild -
New Delhi, May 10 - Opposition today targeted P Chidambaram in the Lok Sabha over the Aircel-Maxis deal, dubbing it as a "big scam" allegedly involving his son but the Home Minister dismissed the charges as "wild and reckless". Declaring that neither he nor any member of his family had acquired or had any stake in Aircel or Maxis, Chidambaram quoted from a statement of his son Karthi, hours after a BJP leader had accused him of having 5 per cent stake in either of the companies.

Govt wants Lokpal Bill to come up in RS after consensus -
New Delhi, May 10 - The government today said it wants the Lokpal Bill to come in the Rajya Sabha after evolving consensus among the political parties. "We would like the Bill to come to the Rajya Sabjha only after there is a consensus. If the Bill is brought and then consensus is sought in the House, it would lead to certain problems," Law Minister Salman Khurshid told reporters outside Parliament House.

Govt may drop Lokayukta clause in Lokpal Bill -
New Delhi, May 10 - Government may drop the clause on setting up of a Lokayukta in states in the Lokpal Bill to bring some Opposition parties and allies like Trinamool Congress on board. The talk is that heeding to demands from Opposition parties and allies, the clause on setting up a Lokayukta in the states may be removed before it comes up before the Rajya Sabha, possibly next week.

Bill to make marriage registration mandatory -
New Delhi, May 7 - A bill aimed at making registration of marriages mandatory on the line of birth and death registration was introduced in the Rajya Sabha today. The Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2012, moved by Law Minister Salman Khurshid in the Upper House, seeks to amend the existing Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969 to bring country-wide uniformity on compulsory registration of marriages.
