Sangma quits NCP after BJP assurance -

PA Sangma on Wednesday refurbished his image as the Opposition's candidate for the president's post by resigning from UPA constituent NCP. Sangma resigned from NCP after BJP conveyed to him its decision to back his candidature. This clearly implies a determination on the part of BJP not to cave in to pressure from its allies, JD(U) and Shiv Sena, for a smooth sailing for UPA presidential nominee Pranab Mukherjee.

Shiv Sena wants Sangma to follow Kalam's suit -
Mumbai, Jun 20 - Lauding A P J Abdul Kalam for withdrawing from the Presidential race, Shiv Sena today said it wanted the "conscience" of the other presidential hopeful, P A Sangma, to also awaken. "Kalam has pulled out listening to his conscience. We thank his conscience for that. We hope that Purno Sangma's conscience too awakens.

The BJP will make a fight of the presidential poll despite decisions by the Shiv Sena and the JD(U) to support UPA nominee Pranab Mukherjee. The party’s core group has decided that it should back former Lok Sabha speaker PA Sangma even if NDA constituents did not agree with LK Advani’s plan to contest Mukherjee’s candidature as a way to expand the NDA’s list of allies.
