Kumbakonam(TN) Oct 1 - Actor Vijaykant,whose fledgling outfit DMDK is leading a front for this month's civic polls in Tamil Nadu, today took a dig at home minister P Chidambaram for his remarks about having a very short memory. "How can a senior politician like Chidambaram make such a statement? People have abandoned faith in such politicians. That is why they deceive people', he told an election meeting here this afternoon.

New Delhi, Sep 29 - Amid the raging controversy over 2G note, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Home Minister P Chidambaram today met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to discuss the issue. This is the first time the two Ministers came face to face since the controversy broke out a week ago after the surfacing of a Finance Ministry note that suggested that the 2G scam could have been avoided if Chidambaram as the then Finance Minister in 2008 had insisted on auctioning of spectrum.
Rich must be prepared to be taxed more says Chidambaram -
New Delhi, Sept 28 - Home Minister P Chidambaram, who as Finance Minister had slashed taxes, today suggested that rich should be taxed more even though "many people" would not like the idea. "We must raise the tax revenue to defend (the expected aggregate decline of resources). I know many people won't like this. But I think, I can summon the courage to make the statement," he said addressing a function of All India Management Association here.

New Delhi, Sep 27 - Questioning Home Minister P Chidambaram's silence on his role in the 2G spectrum allocation, BJP today said he has lot to "answer" on the issue which has caused "revenue loss to the nation". BJP leader Arun Jaitley also took a dig at the Congress, saying its leadership was trying to find a "patchwork" solution to the "crisis" created in the party by the March 25 note of the Finance Ministry and that its infighting "does not answer" as to who is responsible for the loss.

New Delhi, Sep 27 - Government today opposed in the Supreme Court any CBI probe against Home Minister P Chidambaram in connection with the 2G spectrum case. "There is no need to pass any order on the interim application (filed by Swamy)," senior advocate P P Rao, appearing for the Centre told a bench comprising justices G S Singhvi and A K Ganguly. Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy has sought a direction to the CBI to initiate investigations against the senior Congress leader and former Finance Minister.

New Delhi, Sep 26 - Congress President Sonia Gandhi today had separate meetings with Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Home Minister P Chidambaram, stepping in to defuse the raging row over the controversial Finance Ministry note on 2G spectrum allocation. Before meeting Sonia shortly after his return from the US, Mukherjee told reporters that Chidambaram is a "valuable colleague" and a "pillar of strength." Chidambaram drove past waiting reporters after meeting Gandhi at her 10 Janpath residence without saying a word.

New Delhi, Sep 26 - The BJP today backed former Telecom Minister A Raja's demand that the court make then Finance Minister P Chidambaram a witness in the 2G spectrum case and demanded that he should be sacked and criminal investigations be initiated against him. "Raja has said in court that under Section 311 of CrPC, Chidambaram should be called to the witness box and asked about all the decisions taken in the 2G spectrum allocation," BJP spokesperson Jagat Prakash Nadda said.

New Delhi, Sep 26 - Former Telecom Minister A Raja today told a Delhi court that former Finance Minister and now Home Minister P Chidambaram, should be summoned and examined as a witness in the 2G spectrum allocation case. Appearing for Raja, senior advocate Shushil Kumar told Special CBI Judge O P Saini that the agency should have recorded Chidambaram's statement regarding a Cabinet meeting in which he had clarified the issue of dilution of shares.

New Delhi, Sep 25 - Ruling out any "skirmishes" or "war within" the Government, Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid tonight said there was no need for Home Minister P Chidambaram to resign following the controversy over Finance Ministry note on 2G spectrum allocation. Khurshid also found nothing unusual in Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee meeting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New York against the backdrop of the controversy.

New Delhi, Sep 25 - A senior Congress leader from Telangana today joined the BJP in attacking Home Minister P Chidambaram for not delivering on the statehood promise and asked him to get his "facts right" on the party's stand on the contentious issue. Congress leader K Keshav Rao and BJP Chief Spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad asked the UPA government not to play with the sentiments of the people of the region.
