New Delhi, Jun 20 - Rift in the NDA over Narendra Modi widened today with the JD(U) threatening to walk out of the alliance if a "fanatic face" is projected as NDA's Prime Ministerial candidate. Hitting back, BJP asserted that no one can give a fatwa on who is secular and joining the issue, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat wondered why a 'Hinduwadi' should not become the Prime Minister.

BJP must desist from projecting Modi as PM candidate: JD(U) -
New Delhi, Jun 20 - Making clear its aversion for Narendra Modi, JD-U today virtually gave an ultimatum to BJP to desist from projecting the Gujarat Chief Minister as NDA's Prime Ministerial candidate or be ready to snap the alliance. The warning was given by party general secretary Shivanand Tiwari, who said that NDA cannot come to power with a "fanatic face" and JD-U will not compromise on principles on which it had joined the Opposition alliance in 1996.

Ahmedabad, June 19 - Former Gujarat chief minister Keshubhai Patel, who has been openly attending rallies of dissident BJP leaders, will today meet senior party leaders in Delhi to raise a pitch of his campaign against Narendra Modi, sources said. The decision to visit Delhi came after a meeting of an anti-Modi faction at Mr Patel's residence in Gandhinagar last evening. Mr Patel and other BJP leaders, including those who left the party, have started a campaign against Mr Modi in the election year.

Rajkot, Jun 10 - The bitter poster war between Narendra Modi and his detractor Sajay Joshi today intensified with pamphlets and posters targeting the Gujarat Chief Minister and referring to the "massacre for political power" appearing near the BJP's state executive meet venue here. The pamphlets were circulated by people wearing Sanjay Joshi's mask near Swaminarayan temple area, about 200 metres from the state executive meeting venue, days after Joshi was forced to quit the party by the BJP top brass at the behest of Modi.

Rajkot, Jun 10 - Sharpening his attack on the UPA government, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today said it has disappointed people as a result of scams, corruption and rising prices and taunted it for not realising that the "Congress ship is sinking." The BJP strongman also expressed confidence that the saffron party will retain power and emerge triumphant in the Assembly elections in Gujarat due in the end of the year.

Ranchi, Jun 9 - Senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha today said it was the media and not the party which has been projecting Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as its prime ministerial candidate. A section of the media had been after Narendra Modi after the riots in Gujarat. Now it is projecting him as prime minister. The BJP has not decided on it (prime ministerial candidate), Sinha told reporters here.

On a visit to Delhi Friday to finalise the annual plan for Gujarat, Narendra Modi took on the UPA government on the economy, and met both with former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and BJP patriarch L K Advani. Modi had tweeted about his appointment with Vajpayee earlier in the day but the visit to Advani, a day after the latter criticised party chief Nitin Gadkari on his blog, was a well kept secret.
