Sensex snaps gaining streak, drops 354 pts to hit 4-week low -
Mumbai, Sep 1 - Stocks: The BSE benchmark Sensex snapped its four-week of gaining streak and tumbled by 354 points to end at one month low of 17,429.56 due to fall in metal, realty, capital goods, auto and banking counters on the back of weak global cues. The market continued to feel the heat of over week- long logjam in Parliament over the CAG report on coal block allocations, fearing delay in further reform process.

Gold zoom to all-time high at Rs 31,725 on firm global cues -
New Delhi, Sept 1 - Surpassing all previous records, gold skyrocketed to an high of Rs 31,725 per ten grams in the national capital today on frantic buying by stockists, sparked by a steep rise in global prices. Delhi led the rally, rising the most by Rs 550 to Rs 31,725 per ten gram followed by Kolkata with Rs 540 to Rs 31,715. The metal in Mumbai spurted by Rs 520 to Rs 31,400 and in Chennai by Rs 540 to Rs 31,575.

Rupee up by 11 paise vs dollar, closes at 55.52 -
Mumbai, Aug 31 - The Indian rupee bounced back from its initial losses and today appreciated by 11 paise to close at 55.52 against the Greenback on the back of increased capital inflows amid weak dollar in global markets. Fresh dollar selling by exporters on hopes of further fall in dollar value overseas also boosted the rupee sentiment while sharp fall in local equities capped the rise to some extent, a forex dealer said.

Sensex down 161 points, closes at 17,380 -
Mumbai, Aug 31 - The Sensex today plunged nearly 161 points dragged down by power, metal and oil&gas stocks as better-than-expected 5.5 per cent growth in first quarter dashed hopes of interest rate cut, amid a weak global trend. After a slow start, the BSE benchmark index dropped to 17,337.61 soon after the Gross Domestic Product number was announced. It attempted to stage a comeback and went up to 17557.62 but lost the momentum to close at 17,380.75, down 160.89 points or 0.92 per cent over yesterday closing value.

Rupee falls by 9 paise against dollar in early trade -
Mumbai, Aug 31 - The rupee declined by 9 paise to 55.72 against the dollar in early trade today at the Interbank Foreign Exchange on increased demand from oil importers for the American currency. Besides increased dollar demand, a weak opening in the domestic equity market ahead of first quarter GDP data also put pressure on the rupee, forex dealers said.

Sensex falls 71 pts in early trade ahead of GDP data -
Mumbai, Aug 31 - The BSE benchmark Sensex fell by over 71 points in early trade today on fresh selling by funds ahead of first quarter GDP data. The 30-share barometer, which had gained 50.83 points in yesterday's volatile session, fell by 71.28 points, or 0.41 per cent, to 17,470.36. |
Rupee ends just stable at 55.63 -
Mumbai, Aug 30 - In a narrow range of trading at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market today, the rupee ended almost stable -lower by a paisa- at 55.63 against the US currency as dollar demand just exceeds supply. The rupee commenced weak at 55.72 a dollar from previous close of 55.62 and immediately touched a low of 55.75 on some weakness in local equities amid month-end dollar demand from importers.

Sensex rises 50 points, closes at 17,541 -
Mumbai, Aug 30 - After losing over 120 pints, Sensex today staged a comeback as it closed 51 points higher, snapping a four-day downtrend, on buying in pharma, IT and banks amid expiry of current month's derivatives contracts. The BSE benchmark index, which had lost 360 points in last four trading sessions, fell by 123 points in the morning on cautious trading. But in last 30 minutes of trade, the index bounced back sharply to close at 17,541.64, 50.83 points higher than yesterday's close on brisk buying.

Gold loses Rs 175, silver sheds Rs 400 -
New Delhi, Aug 30 - Both gold and silver declined in the bullion market here today on emergence of profit-selling at prevailing higher levels amid a weak trend in the global markets. While gold fell by Rs 175 to Rs 31,175 per 10 grams, silver moved down by Rs 400 to Rs 57,600 per kg. Silver coins tumbled by Rs 2,000 to Rs 70,000 for buying and Rs 71,000 for selling of 100 pieces.

Rupee sheds 12 paise against dollar -
Mumbai, Aug 30 - The rupee declined by 12 paise to 55.74 against the dollar in early trade today at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market on month-end demand from oil importers for the American currency. Besides increased dollar demand from importers, a lower opening in the domestic equity market put pressure on the rupee, forex dealers said.
