Sensex rises 181 points in early trade -
Mumbai, Sept 28 - The BSE benchmark Sensex recovered by over 181 points in early trade today after two sessions of losses, on fresh spell of buying amid a firming trend in the global markets. The 30-share barometer, which lost over 115 points in the previous two sessions, rose by 181.41 points, or 0.98 per cent, to 18,760.91.
Gold loses Rs 250 on poor demand, global cues; silver flat -
New Delhi, Sept 27 - Gold prices fell by Rs 250 to Rs 31,850 per 10 grams in the bullion market here today on lack of demand at existing higher levels amid a weak global trend. Silver, on the other hand, held steady at Rs 60,600 per kg on scattered buying by industrial units.
Rupee up 14 paise against dollar in early trade -
Mumbai, Sept 27 - The rupee today rose 14 paise to 53.37 against the US dollar in early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange on selling of the American currency by exporters and banks. Besides, a higher opening in the equity market also supported the rupee, forex dealers said.
Rupee sheds 24 paise against dollar in early trade -
Mumbai, Sept 26 - The rupee fell by 24 paise to 53.60 against the US dollar in early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market today as the American currency gained against euro in the global markets. Forex dealers said besides strengthening of dollar against euro overseas on eurozone debt worries, rupee fell on increased month-end demand for the American currency from importers.
Sensex up 21 points, closes at 18,694 -
Mumbai, Sept 25 - The BSE benchmark Sensex today ended over 21 points higher on some buying in fundamentally strong stocks as investors remained hopeful of more reform measures by the government to boost the economy. The Sensex, which had lost 79 points in the previous session, recovered by 21.07 points, or 0.11 per cent, at 18,694.41.
Gold gains Rs 160, silver Rs 300 on fresh buying -
New Delhi, Sept 25 - Snapping a three-day losing streak, both gold and silver prices rose in the bullion market here today on emergence of buying at lower levels for the coming wedding season amid a firm global trend. Gold recovered by Rs 160 to Rs 32,110 per 10 grams, while silver added Rs 300 to Rs 60,700 per kg.
Rupee falls 8 paise against dollar -
Mumbai, Sept 25 - The rupee declined by 8 paise to 53.55 against the dollar in early trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange today following increased month-end demand for the American currency from importers. Besides, dollar's gains against euro in the overseas markets amid the increasing threat for another debt- restructuring in Greece also put pressure on the local unit, forex dealers said. A higher opening in the stock market, however, restricted the rupee's losses, they added.
Sensex rebounds; up 116 pts as power stocks rise -
Mumbai, Sept 25 - The BSE benchmark Sensex recovered by over 116 points in early trade today as power sector stocks surged on fresh buying by funds and retailers after the government cleared proposal to restructure debt worth nearly Rs 2 lakh crore for state electricity boards.
Sensex down 79 points, closes at 18,673 -
Mumbai, Sept 24 - The Sensex today erased initial gains and closed 79 points lower on heavy selling in HUL, ITC and HDFC, amid a weak global trend. The BSE benchmark index, which had surged to 14-month high in the previous session, climbed 58.30 points at the outset but failed to sustain the momentum. It finally ended at 18,673.34, down 79.49 points, or 0.42 per cent.
Rupee gains 35 paise against dollar to 53.10 -
Mumbai, Sept 24 - The rupee rose by 35 paise to fresh over four-month high of 53.10 against the American currency in early trade today on persistent dollar selling by exporters and some banks, fearing further rise in rupee's value. Dealers said a higher opening in the equity market also supported the rupee. However, weak euro and yen against the dollar restricted the local unit's gains, they added.
