Hyderabad, May 28 - With her son Jaganmohan Reddy in jail, YS Vijaya will lead the campaign of YSR Congress in the June 12 by-elections to 17 assembly and one Lok Sabha seat in Andhra Pradesh. Vijaya, a housewife who entered politics after the death of her husband and former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy in a chopper crash in 2009, was urged by the party's General Council today to take the mantle of her son in the by-elections, seen as precursor to the 2014 general elections.

Hyderabad, May 28 - Politics in Andhra Pradesh hotted up today over the arrest of YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy in a disproportionate assets case with his family alleging vendetta by Sonia Gandhi, a charge the Congress has strongly denied. In the wake of his arrest, YSR Congress decided to field Y S Vijaya, the widow of former Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, as the main campaigner in the crucial June 12 bye- elections to 17 assembly constituencies and a Lok Sabha seat in the state.
