Thane records 55 per cent voter turnout


Thane, Feb 16 - An average 55 per cent polling was recorded today in the elections to the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), officials said.

Addressing a news conference at the corporation headquarters, Municipal Commissioner R A Rajeev said the polling was by and large peaceful.

As many as 778 candidates are in the fray for 130 civic wards.

Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) developed snag at eight polling booths. They were set right within minutes and their was no disruption in the polling process, he said.

There were a total of around 11.94 lakh voters in the city located adjoining Mumbai of which 55 per cent cast their ballot, Rajeev said.

TMC is currently controlled by the Shiv Sena-BJP combine.

The counting of votes will take place tomorrow. PTI
