MP Assembly Deputy Speaker Harvansh Singh passes away
Seoni (MP), May 14 - Madhya Pradesh Assembly Deputy Speaker and senior Congress leader Harvansh Singh died in the wee hours today following a cardiac arrest. Singh, 65, is survived by wife, two sons and a daughter.
Cyclone watch: Odisha puts 10 coastal districts on alert
Bhubaneswar, May 13 - Even as the IMD made it clear that the cyclonic storm 'Mahasen' would have no major impact on the state as it would move towards Bangladesh-Myanmar coast, Odisha government today put 10 coastal districts under alert for meeting any eventuality.
Aizawl landslide: toll mounts to 17, probe announced
Aizawl, May 13 - The death toll in Saturday's landslide here rose to 17 today, as Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla announced setting up of an inquiry commission to probe the circumstances leading to the disaster. Aizawl SP (Traffic) Lallianmawia said four bodies were recovered since last night, while two more bodies were trapped under concrete slabs in such a way that it was difficult retrieve them.
Rohtak village tense, protesters block traffic, probe ordered
Rohtak (Har), May 13 - An uneasy calm prevailed in Karontha village here with protesters blocking traffic placing the body of one of the killed in Sunday's clash on a road as Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today ordered a magisterial probe into the violence. The Arya Samaj activists placed the body of 40-year-old Promila on Rohtak-Jhajjar road near Satlok Ashram and refused to disperse till their leaders, arrested in connection with the yesterday's clash, were released.
CPI(M) sets up committee to probe factionalism in Kerala unit
New Delhi, May 13 - Concerned over factionalism in its Kerala unit, CPI(M) has set up a group comprising its top leaders to look into it while making it clear that there was "no change" in the status of veteran leader V S Achuthanandan as the Leader of Opposition in the state assembly. The party's Central Committee, which met here for two days, also approved disciplinary action taken by the state unit against four party members in Kerala, most of them close to Achuthanandan.
Nitish welcomes PC setting panel for backwardness; BJP fumes
Patna, May 13 - Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today said he will wait for the Centre's decision on granting special category to Bihar, despite ally BJP terming the government's proposal of forming a panel for deciding backwardness of states as an "illusory". "The Centre has its own way of approaching an issue so what is the harm in waiting for good result," Kumar told reporters emerging from 'Janata Ke Darbar mein Mukhyamantri' programme at his residence.
Cabinet formation in two-three days, says Siddaramaiah
Bangalore, May 13 - Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today said Ministers would be inducted into his Cabinet by Friday even as he acknowledged that it's a difficult exercise. Addressing a press conference after the maiden Cabinet meeting, minutes after he was sworn in Chief Minister, he said he would be leaving for New Delhi tomorrow or the day after to hold discussions with Congress President Sonia Gandhi in this regard.
Mizoram landslide toll 13, more bodies likely to be extricated
Aizawl, May 13 - With the recovery of two more bodies since last night, 13 bodies have been found from the debris following a landslide which swept away an abandoned government building and nine houses in the northern part of Aizawl on May 11. Four bodies were feared to be still trapped under the debris, Aizawl SP (Traffic) Lallianmawia said. "Some parts of the bodies are visible but it will take time to dig them out due to the steep terrain and it will be extremely difficult to dig the concrete slabs over the bodies", he said.

Jammu, May 13 - The Jammu and Kashmir government has said that steps have been initiated to address the demands of the family of Indian national Chamel Singh, who died in a Pakistan prison, seeking compensation and the status of a martyr for the deceased.
Encounter with Maoists on in Jharkhand
Jamshedpur, May 13 - An encounter was on between security personnel and Maoists in a forest in Seraikela-Kharswan district of Jharkhand. Superintendent of Police Upendra Kumar said the encounter was continuing at a place between Kalerango and Chatnibeda villages under naxal-affected Kuchai police station.
CPI (M) activists attacked police in Thakkalai incident: TN CM
Chennai, May 13 - Rejecting a CPI-M charge that police ransacked its office in Thakkalai in Kanyakumari District, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa said it was the party activists who attacked the police personnel when they went to arrest some persons in connection with a complaint. She told that assembly that three CPI-M activists have been arrested in connection with the assault on police personnel on April 5 last.

Liver transplantation facility in Odisha by 2014
Bhubaneswar, May 11 - Odisha government has decided to set up the state's first liver transplantation unit at the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack. The proposed unit is scheduled to be functional in January 2014, said Health and Family Welfare minister Damodar Rout.
11 dead in landslide, work on to extricate other bodies in Mizoram
Aizawl, May 12 - The death toll in the landslide which hit Laipuitlang area here has risen to 11 with the recovery of one more body from the debris. Three more bodies have been sighted and the rescue team is engaged in extricating them, while search is on for three others feared to be trapped, Superintendent of Police(Traffic) Lallianmawia, who is supervising the rescue work, said.
Siddaramaiah to be sworn-in as Karnataka CM on Monday

Punjab announces 40 % subsidy on solar pumps
Chandigarh, May 12 - The Punjab government today announced 40 per cent subsidy on purchase of solar pumps to incentivise farmers for using these pumps for irrigation. Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has sanctioned Rs 5 crore for providing this subsidy to farmers, a spokesperson said. A solar pump costs nearly Rs 2.50 lakh of which 40 per cent (Rs 1 lakh) and 30 per cent (Rs 75,000)...
