Drone strike kills 4 in northwest Pakistan

Islamabad, Aug 18 - A US drone targeted a compound in the lawless North Waziristan tribal region of northwest Pakistan today, killing four persons and injuring two more.

The drone struck a compound in Shawal area of North Waziristan, which has witnessed several missile strikes in the past few months.

The CIA-operated spy plane fired two missiles at the compound.

Four persons were killed and two more injured in the strike, state-run Radio Pakistan reported.

Inter-Services Intelligence chief Lt Gen Zahir-ul-Islam had raised Pakistan's demand for ending drone attacks during a recent visit to the US.

The Taliban recently banned polio vaccinations in North and South Waziristan, saying they would not be allowed as long as the US drone strikes continued. PTI
