Nepal SC issues show cause notice to govt over CA dissolution

Shirish B Pradhan,
Kathmandu, Jun 8 -A The Baburam Bhattarai government in Nepal was today issued a show cause notice by the Supreme Court over its decision to dissolve the Constituent Assembly (CA) and to hold for fresh polls.

A single bench of Chief Justice Khilaraj Regmi issued the order acting on a writ filed by a group of senior advocates seeking annulment of the cabinet decision to hold fresh polls on November 22.

They have appealed to the apex court to reinstate the Constituent Assembly for a day as it was dissolved on May 27 without holding a formal meeting.

Nepal's opposition parties have termed the Maoist-led government's announcement of holding another CA polls as "unconstitutional" with the intention to capture power.

Bhattarai, meanwhile, claimed the Constituent Assembly was dissolved as there was no other option before the government. PTI
