Imphal, Aug 17 - A student leader and a man were shot dead by unidentified militants this morning at an interior village in Manipur's Tamenglong district bordering Nagaland, official sources said.

Zeliangrong Students' Union (ZSU) secretary Chuntuigal Kamel and a man identified as Jenao Rongmel, who were earlier abducted from different places, were gunned down by their captors at Nungkao village this morning.

It was not exactly known whether Kamel and Rongmej knew each other or whether they were abducted together from a particular place, sources said.

No individual or group has claimed responsibility for killing in the district where reports said different militant factions including NSCN (Khaplang), NSCN-IM and some Zeliangrong groups were 'very active', sources said. PTI
