Manipur: Militants kidnap three


Imphal, Aug 4 - Banned KCP militants kidnapped three persons, including two masons from Imphal West district of Manipur and have demanded huge ransom to free them, official sources said today.

Kangleipak Communist Party militants abducted a care taker of a private industrial unit from his house at Langol area in the district on July 29. They also took away four mobile handsets, one laptop computer and Rs 1500 in cash.

They later called up the caretaker's family and demanded Rs 20 lakh for his safe release.

In another incident, two masons involved in the construction of a bridge at Phumlou Siphai area in the district were abducted by Kangleipak Communist Party-Military Council (KCP-MC) on July 27 from the worksite, sources said.

The abductors telephoned their family members and demanded Rs 15 lakhs by the government contractor who was constructing the bridge.

In both cases the families were cautioned from going to the police.

Written complaints by the families of the abducted to the police days afterwards and search is now on for the three men, the police added. PTI
