UP govt will ensure sentiments not hurt during frisking: Khan

Lucknow, Jun 18 - Taking cognisance of problems being faced by devotees in Varanasi due to tight security arrangements, the Uttar Pradesh government today said it would ensure that "no sentiment is hurt" while frisking.

"The state government will ensure that no one's sentiment is hurt while frisking as tight security is in place in Varanasi," Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mohammad Azam Khan said in reply to a question in the Assembly.

BJP member Shyamdeo Roy Chowdhury raised the issue of the problems being faced by devotees while visiting Kashi Vishwanath temple and other pilgrim destinations in the state due to tight security arrangements.

Khan said those visiting security-sensitive places will have to undergo frisking, but the "government will ensure that it is done in a respectable way".

Earlier replying to a question posed by BJP MLA Dharmpal Singh, the minister said that a special security plan had been made for Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid site, Kashi Vishwanath temple, Gyanvapi mosque, Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi in Mathura and the Taj Mahal.

Besides, central forces and adequate state forces have also been deployed at these places, Khan said. When members of the House expressed apprehension regarding the lack of coordination between central and state forces, Khan said it was not true and "both have good relations". PTI
