Rajahmundry (AP), May 25 - About 400 electronic voting machines (EVMs), ballot unit and controlling units are kept ready for the June 12 by-election to Ramachandrapuram constituency in East Godavari district.
District Collector and Election Officer Nitukumar Prasad said 210 EVMs are needed for the by-elections, while 190 extra EVMs are kept ready. If any problem arises, the extra machines will be utilised for smooth conducting of the bypolls.
"We are making all arrangements for peaceful conduct of elections without any problem of EVMs," she said. Various political party representatives inspected the EVMs and serial numbers.
"We will monitor the polling in sensitive and super-sensitive areas with 'web casting system' which has been introduced to control irregularities in polling," she added.
She said sale of liquor would be banned in bypoll areas of Ramachandrapuram from June 10 to June 12 midnight.
District Superintendent of Police Thrivikram Varma said nine check posts have been set up at vulnerable points to curtail the movement of illegal liquor and cash in the district in view of bypoll.
He said illegal cash worth of Rs 1.64 crore and 3,300 litres of liquor were seized from various persons in the district. Over 795 bind over cases have been registered by police and notices have been issued to hand over firearms in the district, he added. PTI
