Mumbai,May 18 - The new president and state office-bearers of the Maharashtra unit of the NCP will be appointed on June 2.
The new appointments would be made keeping in view the party's strategy for the 2014 assembly elections.
According to sources, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar is keen to get his close-aide and Irrigation Minister Sunil Tatkare the post of the state unit president.
However, the final decision will be taken by Union Agriculture Minister and NCP supremo Sharad Pawar at the meeting on June 2 to be held at the Y B Chavan Pratisthan.
The other names doing rounds to succeed the current incumbent president Madhukar Pichad are senior leaders Govindrao Adik, Home Minister R R Patil, PWD minister Chhagan Bhujbal and MSRDC Minister Jaydutt Kshirsagar.
When contacted, Pichad said, "There is no discussion on the probable candidates to succeed him in the party. Sharad Pawar will take a decision in this regard."
Meanwhile, the district unit election of president and office-bearers will be made on May 20 and the Mumbai unit election will be held of May 27.
Similarly, the national president and national executive election will take place on June 12. PTI
