Rain and storm cause damage in Arunachal


Itanagar, May 17 - Cyclonic storm coupled with torrential rain have left a trail of destruction in several parts of Arunachal Pradesh, officials said today.

Itanagar and its adjoining areas plunged into darkness as cyclonic storm uprooted many trees along the NH-52A damaging power transmission lines in several parts of the state capital last night, officials said.

The power department had engaged its men and machineries to restore power supply which was available after nearly 12 hours, sources added.

Cyclonic storm also created havoc at Borguli, Kiyit and Ngopok villages under Mebo Circle of East Siang district last night causing extensive damages to dwelling houses granaries, rice mills and electric transmission lines.

Over a hundred trees including bamboo grooves were uprooted while many thatched roofs of dwelling houses and granaries were blown away.

No casualty has been reported, sources said. PTI
